This time last month, I had my first ever market stall in London, showcasing my typographic prints and a new range of hand-painted signs. I signed up to the Crafty Fox autumn markets never once thinking I'd actually be selected and then I did!

I have to say I was both excited and anxious about it having never done a market before. The social and personal side of things totally appealed to me but the fear of not selling or your work being scrutinised out in the public did daunt me. Understandable I suppose. But then again, I did say to myself that this would be a market research of kind as I wanted to see if folk would be keen on buying hand-painted signs.

Anyway, the whole thing was such a great experience, right form the prep work to the actual day selling - and I sold more than expected which was a relief! :)

I have to admit, having done the market, I have a complete new found respect to all my designer-maker friends who do this on a regular basis. The thought process that goes behind both the products and stall can be insanely detailed and lengthy. You can only image how much thought and time goes into those stands you see that are just beautifully branded across everything. I kept mine pretty simple as I only planned to do this market as a one-off market, but even that felt like A LOT!

Overall, the market provided lot of valuable insight and I had so much fun being amongst other traders and meeting all the punters. It's definitely got me preferring it to an online shop presence....so who knows, I might do more in the future?

A little round up of what's been taking place behind the scenes in and out of the studio (from freelance work to private commissions) over the last there months. The variation of work from large scale murals to smaller custom-made signs, while challenging in its own ways, is always so refreshing - definitely keeps me on my toes! Last week, I worked on an entrance signage for the studio in Limehouse. The rather weathered frontage had been aching for a lease of life so I proposed the idea of creating a bold, bright and statement entrance using a yellow, black and grey as the primary colour palette. 

The design was kept relatively simple with the entranceway as the focal point. Taking key points around the doorway, I mapped out a bold geometric shape which I then blocked out in bright yellow masonry; from the walls and doors to the concrete floor. I kept the typeface for the studio name clean and minimal, which I hand-painted in black and included a grey drop shadow to give it an even stronger and punchier look.

I absolutely loved working on this project for it's scale and overall simplicity which worked out a lot more effectively in the end. The yellow totally makes it! All in all, it took 3.5days for the entire job (from initial design sketches to production) and was lucky enough to have good weather for it too!

I will be taking more professional shots to add to my portfolio section, but in the meantime, here are a few behind-the-scenes images of me at work!

A few weeks back, I ran my first ever typographic painting workshop at a alternative wedding event held at Frame, Kings Cross - providing a little art therapy for the modern brides.  I designed a little backdrop signage for my area too where I painted the phrase 'Lets get the party started' in lettering enamel onto structural plyboard sheets. A couple of weeks ago, I had the great honour and pleasure of assisting internationally renowned artist Maser on a large scale mural in Walthamstow. The project was in collaboration with Woodstreet Walls - a community led initiative looking to create a link between local and artistic communities of Walthamstow Forest area through public art, workshops and studio spaces.

As part of their 'Paint Your London' event, 15 walls in Walthamstow are to be painted with various local and international artists, kicking off with the Standard Pub on Black Horse Road by Maser. The old derelict pub proved to be a challenging cavas but transformation of this has been incredible and just the statement the area needed. Working alongside Maser and the Woodswtreet Walls crew on this project, particularly at such a large scale, has been such a fun and amazing experience......and a true testament to what art is all about.

Currently working on a series of custom-made typographic signs which I'm hoping to put on the market this year. Similar to my prints, these signs will be inspired by fun, uplifting quotes and graphics that would suit both the home and workplaces. This first one, was coined by my husband as a response to my Instagramming (and general photographing) obsession....so I couldn't help but design and paint it! Pretty sure, many of you will relate!
