STAY SWEET Mural

Last weekend’s job was painting this beaut of a mural for returning client @sweetnothingbakehouse at their brand spanking new premises in Poplar! I did Beth’s market signage and trailer back when she first started out in 2015 so it’s been great working with her again, now as fully fletched bakehouse! It’s pretty amazing to have witnessed her journey as an indie business and feel incredibly honoured to have played a small part in it.

Beth wanted one of her key branded strap lines STAY SWEET on the main wall to create a statement. The design had already been created by and provided by her, which she asked for me to apply as I saw fit, with the brand and overall aesthetics of the space in mind. The mural spanned across across 2.5m wide and took three whole days from drawing out to painting. There’s a short condensed behind-the-scenes video here if you fancy a glimpse into what took place.

Sweet Nothing Bakehouse opened its doors yesterday (soft launch) so if you’re over in East London go check out all their delicious artisanal sweet treats!!

POSTER FOR THE PEOPLE 2.0

It’s here!!!! This year’s #posterforthepeople campaign brought to life by In Good Company, is officially life as of today!!! We’re back to let our Frontline workers know that we still see them and we are still Thankful for all the work they continue to do and to give some much needed visual support from afar. I’m absolutely chuffed and honoured to be among the 19 Artists contributing towards this great initiative for the second time. I mean, we have typography legend Margaret Calvert as the key designer this time, as well many other greats such as Supermundane, Rebecca Strickson, Holy Moly, etc.

As before, anyone can join in by buying a banner or an poster for their area, of their chosen art and all the profits will go to raise much needed funds for Frontline 19. More details of how to purchase are here: https://ingoodcompany.webshop.fyi

A beautiful short featured on @leedsplussocial about the 19 artists involved on this #postersforthepeople campaign led by @ingoodcompanyleeds. It explains beautifully the purpose behind this initiative; raising funds and cheer for our essential frontline workers.

MOLU_IGC_YOU-ARE-ONLY-HUMAN.gif

My piece for this year’s poster was based around the words “YOU ARE ONLY HUMAN; be gentle on yourself”. I wanted everyone to be reassured, that in a world of madness and mess when you don’t often feel like you have it together, that you’re doing your damn best to keep things going, and to be less harsh on yourself if things aren’t always going the way you hope. I used bright positive colours and created the lock up to look like it was rising strong. Resonating with the resilience we have within ourselves to get through the darkest times.

Anyway, there’s more images over on the WORK section courtesy of @jadphotography and @jma.photo!

Mini Murals -

Part 1

I have to say, the lockdown blues has sure kicked in hard this time round, and with client work taking a hit, I desperately needed to get some walls painted without climbing up them! So, I decided to get proactive and paint my studio walls by kicking off the first of my “mini mural” series. I revisited an old typelock I did back during the second lockdown last year and created a more 3D version of it. This was then drawn out and hand-painted roughly 2.4x 1.5m in size. Here’s a some behind-the-scenes action.

WE GOT THIS_MURAL 01.jpg

I’m trying to go bigger with my signwriting work and go into murals. It’s always been a dream of mine to do bigger work but making it out there on your own isn’t easy! I’ve thankfully gained so much experience working on large scale murals, freelancing with folk like Bread Collective and Woodstreet Walls, but now it’s all me! It’s a slow process to get your work out there so you have to start somewhere eh! If you can’t get walls, use what you got!

I will be changing this up monthly with different typelocks I design, so do watch this space!! And if you’re interested in having a mural done - inside your studio, office space, home or outside on your gable wall, then hit me up! I would totally open for a donation of walls if you’ll let me put my mark on it! Let me know!!

SUPERHERO MURAL

MOLU X HATCH

Excited to share a glimpse into this collaborative mural I did with my super talented friend and artist HATCH. Bringing together our two worlds of TYPE and ILLUSTRATION, we designed and hand-painted this piece on a donated wall as a homage to all the frontline keyworkers and unsung heroes.

A week to design and two and a half solid days to draw up and paint between the two of us! We’re absolutely delighted at the outcome, so if you or any one you know would be interested in having this mural (or of similar style) done on any walls - let us know!

In the meantime, enjoy all the Behind-the-scenes antics here…
